Evaluating works of art is an involved process, requiring both technical and artistic knowledge.
Such process demands understanding of variables which are beyond simple patterns or formulas, and which reflect on the work's value.

A determining factor on evaluation. Artists of the same time, school and technique can reach disticnt quotations.

The most valuable works are oil paintings, acrillic on canvas, or woodwork. Gouache, watercolor and pastel are less valued.

The size of a work also influences its value, but there are exceptions.

Characteristics such as period, theme and epoch of the painting can be determining.

The work's conservation status also influences its quotation (still, never should one alter its originality).

The "wall" in which it has been exposed is of great importance. Images on exhibition catalogues or book are of great help in attesting the work's origin and epoch.
